It is no surprise that trying to understand Genie+ has not been the easiest for Walt Disney World guests. The same frustration applies in having to carve out time to secure rides on Disney Genie+ at 7 AM on your park day visit. That is why we are SO excited to announce all that is about to change this Summer!
Currently, guests can purchase Disney Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lane entry on the day of their park visit to ‘skip’ a portion of each ride queue and shorten their overall wait time. Genie+ can be purchased starting at midnight for the park you will be visiting that day, but you can only select your first Genie+ attraction at 7 AM. Once the guest has used their Genie+ selection, they can then choose the next available ride queue that they can bypass. Individual Lightning Lanes can only be purchased for a single popular attraction starting at 7 AM on your park day while available.
Starting July 24, 2024, Walt Disney World guests will begin to experience a rebranded Disney Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lane system to make planning your magical vacation even easier!
New Features Coming:
The new Lightning Lane passes are evolving to allow guests the ability to plan ahead like never before:
- Guests will be able to make Lightning Lane plans before arriving at the parks.
- Guests will get to select their experiences and times before purchasing.
- In a single purchase, guests will be able to book Lightning Lane passes for multiple vacation days.
New Names:
Disney also shared that the names, as we currently know it, are once again changing – this time to something simpler and more easily distinguishable. Disney Genie+ will soon become ‘Lightning Lane Multi Pass’, and Individual Lightning Lane will now be called ‘Lightning Lane Single Pass’.
These new and improved names will also be adopted in Disneyland Resort while the way you purchase, select, and redeem passes will stay the same there.
How Will They Work:
Lightning Lane Multi Pass
With the Lightning Lane Multi Pass, guests can make up to three advanced Lightning Lane selections in a theme park, picking the times that suit them best. On your park day, you can check the My Disney Experience app for more selections once you have used your initial or pre-selected picks just as you would currently with Genie+.
Lightning Lane Single Pass
Although the Lightning Lane Single Pass will continue to work as it does now by allowing guests to purchase and secure a time for 1 of the most popular attractions, the great news is that this will soon be able to be done in advance of your visit as well.
Currently, these rides include:
- Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
- Avatar Flight of Passage at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
- Tron/Lightcycle Run and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Magic Kingdom Park
- Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT
Planning Ahead:
Guests at Disney Resort hotels, Shades of Green Resort, and Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotels can select their Lightning Lane passes up to 7 days in advance of their stay, and up to 3 days in advance for all other guests.
Whether you want the Lightning Lane Multi Pass, a Lightning Lane Single Pass, or both, guests will have the ability to purchase as they please ahead of their visit building even more excitement in the process! The new updates will provide a seamless purchasing experience and the new option to buy both passes in a single transaction.
In case you were wondering, the free features available on the Disney Genie service will remain available for both coasts. Both the My Disney Experience and Disneyland apps have undergone many updates over the past year to make everything from dining reservations to mobile food ordering and more a breeze.
This update and ability to plan ahead further is surely going to create a more streamlined, stress-free Disney experience for visitors.
