Planning update: October 13, 2026. It’s Tough to Be a Bug! is permanently closed at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The original closure announcement named March 17, 2025 as the closure date. Do not include the old show in your upcoming itinerary.
What replaced It’s Tough to Be a Bug!?
Zootopia: Better Zoogether! opened at the Tree of Life Theater on November 7, 2025. Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde appear in a new 4D show. See Disney’s Zootopia show announcement for the opening details.
This is a replacement show inside the Tree of Life, not a separate Zootopia theme park or a new land. Check My Disney Experience for the show’s operating hours on your visit date.
A look back at the original Tree of Life show
It’s Tough to Be a Bug! was part of Animal Kingdom’s original 1998 lineup. Inspired by Pixar’s A Bug’s Life, it introduced visitors to Flik and the insect world through a theater presentation with physical effects and surprises. The photograph above shows the former attraction’s poster.
Its closure does not mean the Tree of Life has closed. The park’s landmark remains, with a different show in its theater.
Planning Animal Kingdom with children
A familiar movie character does not always mean an attraction will suit every child. For a 4D theater show, consider how your child responds to darkness, loud sounds and surprise effects. Ask a Cast Member about the current experience before joining the queue if those are concerns.
Choose a few priorities rather than building your day around an old attraction list. Our Disney World rides for toddlers and young children article can help you compare options. Use the Walt Disney World Planning Guide for tickets, hotels and park-day planning.
