Before we dive in, our hearts go out to anyone directly impacted by a hurricane. Safety comes first, and Disney takes great care of its guests in times of severe weather. If you find yourself caught at Disney World during a hurricane, here are some ways to stay safe and still make the most of your magical vacation.
Stay Informed
Disney is excellent at keeping guests in the loop. Make sure to check the My Disney Experience app for updates on park closures or modified hours. You’ll also receive notifications from your resort, so stay connected! Fairytale Journeys Travel advisors also keep their guests informed and help each guest navigate their time at Disney in the storm- a great reason to book with a travel advisor!
Stay Indoors and Safe
Disney resorts are built to withstand severe weather, so your best bet is to stay indoors when the storm hits. Avoid venturing out until the all-clear is given.
Enjoy Indoor Resort Activities
The magic doesn’t stop at the parks! Disney resorts often organize fun indoor activities like games, arts and crafts, and even character meet-and-greets. Ask the front desk or check the app to see what’s happening at your resort. Remember, we want to keep our Cast Members safe! So if these activities are not available- it is for good reason.
Stock Up on Snacks
While Disney resorts have quick-service options, it’s a good idea to grab some extra snacks and drinks ahead of the storm. This way, you’re fully prepared for a cozy day indoors. You could try a grocery delivery service, or check out your resort’s quick-service dining and store!
Create Your Own Disney Magic
A hurricane at Disney World can be a great excuse to relax and slow down. If you’re in your room, watch your favorite Disney movies on Disney+, play games with your family, or reminisce over your magical park experiences so far. Another idea is to visit somewhere like the LEGO Store in Disney Springs prior to the storm, to grab a fun toy for the stormy day!
Consider Indoor Attractions
If the parks remain open, head to indoor-heavy spots like EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, or Disney Springs, which offer plenty of dining, shopping, and attractions that provide shelter from the weather.
Keep an Emergency Kit Handy
It’s always a good idea to have an emergency kit on hand. Include essentials like bottled water, snacks, and any medications you may need, just in case the storm lasts longer than expected.
Safety First, Magic Always
Disney does a fantastic job keeping guests safe, and with a little preparation, you can turn what could be a stressful time into a unique and memorable experience.
So, if you’re wondering what to do during a hurricane at Disney World, follow these tips to stay safe, keep calm, and enjoy the magic—even when the weather outside is frightful!
