Reviewed October 13, 2026. If a hurricane threatens your Disney World vacation, follow local emergency instructions and the directions given by your resort. This article is a preparation guide, not a live weather alert. Do not use park opening hours as proof that it is safe to travel.
Where should I check hurricane updates at Disney World?
Check the National Weather Service’s east-central Florida forecasts and alerts, local emergency announcements, Disney’s current operating notices and messages from your resort. Ask the front desk how emergency instructions will reach your room. Keep your phone charged and make sure you can receive alerts.
Should I stay in my hotel room during a hurricane?
Follow evacuation or relocation instructions immediately. If told to shelter in place, ask resort staff where to go within your building. Stay away from windows and glass doors. A brief lull can be the hurricane’s eye; remain sheltered until officials say the danger has passed. Do not go outside to watch or photograph the storm. The National Weather Service hurricane action guidance explains these precautions.
Can I visit indoor Disney attractions during a hurricane?
Do not travel to a park, restaurant or Disney Springs as an alternative to an emergency shelter instruction. Reaching an indoor attraction still involves outdoor travel, and attractions are not a substitute for the location emergency officials or resort staff direct you to use. Wait for current safety and operating guidance before resuming vacation plans.
What should I prepare before conditions worsen?
- Keep drinking water, ready-to-eat food and necessary medication accessible.
- Charge phones and portable chargers, and keep a flashlight available.
- Keep identification, reservation details and important contact numbers together.
- Ask the resort about meal arrangements and any needs involving mobility, medical equipment or other assistance.
- Prepare quiet activities that do not depend on internet service, such as books or cards.
Prepare while conditions permit. Do not make a last-minute shopping trip or rely on a delivery during unsafe conditions. Restaurant access, transportation and deliveries can be disrupted.
Will Disney provide characters or special activities during a closure?
Do not count on entertainment, character visits or normal restaurant service during a storm. Any activities depend on conditions and staffing. Respect closures and the instructions protecting guests and Cast Members.
Can I cancel or change my Disney World vacation?
Contact the company that booked each part of your trip. Ask which current terms apply to your hotel, tickets, flights and other reservations. Do not assume one supplier’s storm accommodation covers the entire trip, or that every weather-related cancellation qualifies for a refund. Keep written confirmations of changes.
Fairytale Journeys Travel clients can contact their advisor for help with their booking and available next steps. Emergency instructions must still come from local officials and resort staff.
What should I do after the storm?
Wait for officials to say it is safe to leave shelter. Avoid flooded or damaged areas and never drive through floodwater. Check transportation and operating updates before heading out; a reopening announcement does not mean every service has resumed.
