Updated October 13, 2026: Disney Destiny is now sailing. This article preserves the story of its original name and theme announcement. For current trip planning, use our Disney Cruise Line Planning Guide.
When was Disney Destiny announced?
Disney revealed the ship’s name and heroes-and-villains theme in March 2024, alongside a keel-laying ceremony at Meyer Werft in Germany. The announcement introduced a ship inspired by the characters on both sides of Disney stories. Read Disney’s original announcement.
What is Disney Destiny’s theme?
The ship draws on heroes and villains from Disney films and attractions, including The Lion King, Hercules, and One Hundred and One Dalmatians. It belongs to the same ship class as Disney Wish and Disney Treasure; its theme helps distinguish it from those sister ships.
Why is Minnie Mouse on the Disney Destiny bow?
The original reveal featured Minnie in a cape and heroic outfit. Her image also appeared on the ceremonial keel coin. These details introduced the ship’s theme before construction was complete.
Is Disney Destiny still a future ship?
No. Its maiden voyage departed Fort Lauderdale on November 20, 2025. Read our Disney Destiny inaugural-season update for the launch context and how to compare future sailings.
Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point is a Bahamas destination, not a ship. For the distinction between ships already sailing and future additions, see our Disney Cruise Line fleet update.
