Jump to a sectionHow do you choose a Disney resort for your first trip?
Start with the room your family needs and the amount you want to spend on the whole stay. Next, compare transportation to the parks you will visit most. Finally, decide which hotel features you will actually use. A beautiful pool has more value when your schedule includes swimming time.
- Count guests and beds. Include every child and infant when requesting a quote. Decide who can comfortably share a bed.
- Set a total hotel budget. Use your actual overnight dates, including arrival and departure plans.
- Choose your main parks. A convenient route to your favorite park can make afternoon breaks easier.
- Pick two must-haves. Examples include a separate sleeping space, a waterslide, or access to the Skyliner.
- Compare two or three hotels. Review the exact room category, final price, and cancellation terms.
Plan the rest of your vacation with our Walt Disney World Planning Guide. You do not have to choose the most expensive resort to have a memorable trip.
What is the difference between Value, Moderate, Deluxe, and Villa resorts?
Disney uses these categories to group its accommodations. They help you build a shortlist, but they do not tell you everything about a room or its location. Compare the specific booking, not just the category name.
- Value: All-Star Movies, All-Star Music, All-Star Sports, Pop Century, and Art of Animation. A useful starting point when keeping hotel spending down is a priority.
- Moderate: Caribbean Beach, Coronado Springs, and both Port Orleans resorts. Compare their setting, room locations, and recreation.
- Deluxe: options such as Contemporary, Polynesian Village, Grand Floridian, Beach Club, and Animal Kingdom Lodge. Consider the particular location and amenities you are paying for.
- Deluxe Villas: studios and larger accommodations at resorts such as Riviera, Old Key West, and Saratoga Springs. Layouts and kitchen facilities vary.
The Fort Wilderness campsites are a separate lodging option. The newer Cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort are in Disney’s Deluxe Villa collection. A campsite and a cabin are different bookings. Use Disney’s resort directory to confirm categories and available accommodations.
Is a Deluxe resort worth the extra money?
It may be if you will use its location, dining, pool, or eligible evening park benefit. It may be less useful if you mainly need somewhere to sleep. Ask what the upgrade changes in your actual day. Compare the added cost for the entire stay, then decide whether those conveniences are worth that amount to your family.
Which Disney resorts should first-time visitors compare?
There is no single best Disney World resort for every family. Use these starting points to match a hotel to a priority. These are suggested shortlists, not promises of the lowest price or shortest journey.
For a lower-cost starting point: the All-Star resorts
Compare All-Star Movies, Music, and Sports for your dates. Their Disney bus service can work well for families who will spend most days in the parks. Compare the full quote before calling one the cheapest; discounts and available rooms can change the order.
For Skyliner access: Pop Century or Caribbean Beach
Consider Pop Century if you want a Value option on the Skyliner network. Compare Caribbean Beach if a Moderate resort appeals to you. In either case, check your building’s location and the route from your room to the station. The Skyliner serves EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, not every park.
For a family suite: Art of Animation or All-Star Music
Compare space and sleeping arrangements as well as the nightly rate. Both offer family suites, but their bed types and transportation differ. Art of Animation also has standard Little Mermaid rooms; those are not the same as its family suites.
For Magic Kingdom access: Contemporary Resort
Disney’s Contemporary Resort offers a walking route to Magic Kingdom and a monorail stop inside the main tower. It is worth comparing when frequent Magic Kingdom visits or midday breaks drive your plans. Check whether your quote is for the tower or Garden Wing. See Disney’s Contemporary Resort details.
For EPCOT and pool time: Beach Club Resort
Beach Club is within walking distance of EPCOT and has boat service to Hollywood Studios. Its shared Stormalong Bay recreation area may appeal to families planning pool afternoons. Leave time to enjoy it instead of filling every hour with attractions. Review Beach Club’s current amenities.
For animal viewing and time at the resort: Animal Kingdom Lodge
Animal Kingdom Lodge offers savanna viewing areas and African-inspired surroundings. Consider it if exploring the hotel is part of the vacation. Check the exact view category if seeing animals from your room is important. Use Disney bus transportation for park visits; the resort name does not mean you have a park entrance at your door. Read Animal Kingdom Lodge’s overview.

Compare Disney Resort OptionsWhich Disney resort rooms fit families of five or six?
Check the occupancy and bed layout of the exact room you are booking. A resort may advertise a large maximum because it has suites or villas. That does not mean every standard room fits that many people. Give the booking system or your advisor the ages of all travelers.
- Art of Animation family suites: sleep up to six, with a queen bed, double sleeper sofa, and double pull-down bed. They have two bathrooms and a kitchenette. Little Mermaid standard rooms sleep up to four. Check Art of Animation room details.
- All-Star Music family suites: sleep up to six with a queen bed and two queen pull-down beds. They include two bathrooms and a kitchenette. Compare the current All-Star Music layouts.
- Other rooms, studios, and villas: some accommodate larger families, but the exact bed configuration matters. A child-size pull-down bed is not equivalent to another full-size bed. Confirm suitability for each sleeper.
Do you need a villa to get a kitchen?
A kitchenette and a full kitchen are different. A microwave and beverage cooler may be enough for a simple breakfast, but not for cooking dinner. Disney’s room descriptions list full kitchens and washers and dryers in one-bedroom and larger villas at accommodations such as Disney’s Beach Club Villas. Its studios have kitchenettes. Check the individual accommodation rather than assuming every villa-category room has a full kitchen.
Are connecting rooms a better option than a suite?
Price both options if your group needs several beds or more privacy. Ask whether connecting rooms are guaranteed under the specific booking terms or are only a request. If adults must stay directly connected to young children, settle that question before paying. Do not build an essential sleeping arrangement around an unconfirmed request.
How do you get from a Disney resort to the parks?
Disney World is spread out. No hotel is within an easy walk of all four theme parks. Choose a hotel for the routes you will use most, and include time for walking to the stop, waiting, transfers, and security. A map distance alone does not describe the full trip.
- Monorail: Contemporary, Polynesian Village, and Grand Floridian connect to the Magic Kingdom resort loop. EPCOT requires a transfer at the Transportation and Ticket Center. See Disney’s monorail routes.
- Skyliner: Pop Century, Art of Animation, Caribbean Beach, and Riviera connect to the network serving EPCOT’s International Gateway and Hollywood Studios. Your journey may require a transfer.
- Buses: an important part of resort-to-park travel, including destinations not served by your hotel’s rail or boat route. Check the destination displayed before boarding.
- Boats and walking paths: available on particular routes, not between every hotel and park. Verify the route for your specific hotel and destination.
Disney currently schedules a Skyliner closure for January 24–30, 2027, with complimentary bus service during the closure. Check Disney’s Skyliner notice before choosing a hotel mainly for gondola access.
Do you need a rental car at Disney World?
Many families can use resort transportation for their Disney park days. A car may help with off-property plans, grocery stops, or a wider Orlando vacation. Compare rental costs and the convenience you expect to gain. Also plan your airport transfer separately; park transportation is not an airport transfer booking.
Orlando International Airport lists official ground transportation options, including rental cars, taxis, rideshare, and shuttle services. Choose an option that fits your party, luggage, and any child-seat needs. Confirm pickup instructions for your terminal.
What benefits come with a Disney Resort hotel stay?
Benefits depend on the hotel and travel dates. A room reservation does not automatically include park tickets, meals, or paid Lightning Lane passes. Read your package confirmation to see exactly what you purchased.
- Early Theme Park Entry: eligible guests get 30 minutes of early entry for select attractions at the four theme parks. Disney confirms this benefit through 2027. Valid admission and any required reservation still apply. See eligible hotels and early-entry rules.
- Extended Evening Theme Park Hours: available to eligible Deluxe and Deluxe Villa guests and select other hotels on scheduled nights. It is not an every-night benefit at every park. Disney confirms it through 2027; review eligibility and the current schedule.
- Earlier Lightning Lane purchase window: eligible hotel guests can purchase passes up to seven days before check-in for a stay of up to 14 days. These passes cost extra and are subject to availability. Check current Lightning Lane booking rules.
- Dining booking window: guests with a valid Disney Resort hotel reservation can book 60 days before arrival for up to 10 nights of their stay. Popular tables are still subject to availability.
Some partner hotels share certain benefits, so compare the named hotel against each eligibility list. Do not assume all non-Disney hotels have no benefits—or that every hotel on Disney property offers the same benefits.
Can Fairytale Journeys Travel help with dining too?
Yes. Fairytale Journeys Travel advisors discuss clients’ park days and meal preferences, then help book dining reservations as part of their complimentary client services. New reservation windows typically open around 6:00 a.m. Eastern Time. Your advisor can prioritize popular character meals and discuss alternatives, without promising availability. Our Disney Dining Guide and meal calculator explain the booking process and optional dining plans.
Is staying at a Disney resort worth it compared with staying off property?
Compare the total trip cost and the way you want your days to work. A lower hotel rate can be attractive, but add parking, fees, and transportation before deciding. A Disney stay may be worth more to a family taking daily hotel breaks than to one spending most of the trip elsewhere in Orlando.
Disney currently includes overnight self-parking at its Disney Resort hotels and standard theme-park parking for registered Disney Resort hotel guests. Preferred parking and valet service can cost extra. Separately operated hotels can have different charges. Check Disney’s parking terms and the hotel’s own quote.

Copy these questions into your notes for each hotel. Compare the same dates, travelers, ticket choices, and cancellation flexibility so the final totals mean something.
- Stay: What are the check-in and checkout dates, and how many nights am I paying for?
- Room: What is the exact room name, occupancy, bed layout, and number of bathrooms?
- Price: What is the total after tax, required fees, parking, and transportation?
- Park access: How will we reach each planned park and return for a break?
- Useful extras: Which benefits, meals, or amenities will we actually use?
- Booking terms: What are the deposit, final-payment date, and cancellation or change conditions?
- Trade-off: What would we gain by paying more, and what else could that money cover?
For example, four park days do not always mean four hotel nights. A late arrival before your first park day may require an extra night. Price the actual stay instead of multiplying a nightly rate by the number of park tickets.
What should you check before booking your Disney resort?
- Room location: compare the walk to transportation, food, and the pool. A preferred location or room view means whatever the exact listing specifies.
- Accessibility: use Disney’s accessible-room filters and confirm the features you need. Review Disney’s hotel accessibility information.
- Refurbishments: check notices for construction, pool closures, and transportation interruptions during your stay.
- Food: look at convenient breakfast and late-return options. Do not assume every hotel has the same dining choices.
- Rest time: leave space for a pool afternoon or a slower morning if hotel amenities are part of your reason for choosing it.
- Confirmation: review names, ages, dates, room type, package inclusions, and payment deadlines.
Does online check-in mean your room is ready when you arrive?
No. Online check-in helps with arrival arrangements, but your room may not be ready when you reach the hotel. Keep essentials accessible and avoid plans that depend on immediate room access. Disney’s Direct-to-Room Service instructions explain room-ready notifications and app access.
Disney resort questions people ask
Which Disney resort is best for toddlers?
Start with your child’s sleep routine and your main parks. A convenient afternoon return, suitable beds, and nearby food may matter more than elaborate decorations. Compare Contemporary for a Magic Kingdom walking route or a family suite when separate sleeping space is the priority. Choose around your daily routine, not a universal ranking.
Which Disney World resort is cheapest?
Begin by comparing the Value resorts for your exact dates. The lowest available total depends on room availability, offers, party size, and stay length. A family needing two rooms should also price a suitable suite. The cheapest room for two people may not be the cheapest arrangement for your group.
Can you stay at a Disney hotel without visiting a park?
Yes. You can plan a hotel stay without theme-park days. Review whether your booking is room-only or a package with tickets. If you mainly want recreation and dining, compare the resort itself and the amenities available during your dates.
Is a split stay a good idea for a first visit?
It can let you experience two hotels, but moving takes time and adds booking details to manage. For a first trip, one hotel is often simpler. Before splitting the stay, consider packing, room-ready times, transportation, and how separate reservations affect your plans.
Does this Disney resort guide cover Disneyland hotels?
